Analytics Professional
About Me
I've been an analytics professional in the banking industry since 2014 and really enjoy my work due to its technical and challenging nature. Most of my modeling and analysis has been done in SAS but with Python becoming a popular skill to learn, I figured I'll learn Python and showcase what I learned in this blog. I believe it's easier and more beneficial to learn Python when I apply it to projects that I'm interested in as opposed to just watching videos or doing random coding exercises. To add some structure to my Python learning I'm enrolled in IBM Python Data Science Professional Certificate. The program comprises of five courses ranging from data visualization to machine learning with Python.
One of my hobbies is flying, I'm an FAA instrument rated pilot and time building for my commercial pilot license. Most projects will be on random topics but one of my passions is aviation so warning there may be many aviation themed posts!
Work Experience
TD Bank
2018 - Present
I fall under the retail model development team where I monitor CCAR models for a wide variety of retail products: residential (MTG/HE), small business, auto, deposits, and affiliate cards. I run the models to score and pull actuals to monitor model performance. Due to the need for efficient process, I have to streamline the model developer code which I found very tedious and challenging for every model developer has their own style of coding. Investigating any model breaches resulted in me building an extensive product knowledge base for wide variety of retail products.
Bank of America
2016 - 2018
I was on the credit card acquisition strategies team serving as the liaison between strategy, model development, and model validation. I ensured the model uses for acquisition strategies were within performance thresholds and in guidance of SR11-7. These strategies ranged from pricing and line assignment to approvals and declines. I performed impact analysis on strategies for model validation action items that resulted from model degradation and breaches.
M&T Bank
2014 - 2016
I was a quantitative modeler in credit risk management assigned to the small business and commercial portfolio. I developed and owned loss forecasting models (PD/LGD/EAD) for stress testing (CCAR/DFAST). I also used analytics and modeling to help the line of business on business processes. An example of a business process project is when I developed an overdrafts model to assign overdraft limits to deposit accounts, which resulted in an 80% decrease in losses and increased net revenue of $2.4MM while maintaining a 71% pay rate.
EA, A Quintiles Company
2011 - 2013
I was a laboratory associate for a biotech startup that did genomic sequencing. I conducted quality control assessments on isolated DNA and RNA samples. The quality of the genomic material has to be checked before it proceed downstream so efficiency and accuracy were key for my role. I was recognized for submitting the highest number of process testing records in one quarter while achieving a 0% error rate. EA was acquired by Quintiles in 2013.
